about

The roots of this album go back to a cassette release from 1995 entitled "the balanced field" by an ensemble known as 'alial straa', which was the first collaborative musical effort by John Grzinich and Seth Nehil. Some of the tracks were sparked by the need to create a soundtrack for a performance art event in Austin TX, that the duo had been invited to, while others were re-mixed from previously existing material. The sources are entirely analog, ranging from Grzinich's self made piano wire 'drone' instruments to Nehil's deconstructed cassette feedback experiments. In 1997, the original material was edited and released again on cassette, this time on Orogenetics label. The version of the album heard here comes from a CDr re-release from 2001 on Alluvial, for which the tracks were again remixed and remastered.
